In his 1988 apostolic letter, “Mulieris Dignitatem” (“On the Dignity of Women”), Saint John Paul II referenced “the feminine genius”, or the gifts that women bring to their homes & communities. On the eve of the birth of my daughter, I began to reflect on the gifts that women have brought to my life. My mom, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, and friends have each contributed their genius to my growth into womanhood. They’ve provided comfort, care, inspiration, encouragement, order, and so much more. Each pattern in this collection represents a different aspect of the feminine genius. The world is made richer by the creativity, hope, support, joy, humility, tears, resilience, abundance, and the genius of women.
